How to make money with Redsail CNC router

Do you need a machine that cuts wood, plastic, or metal accurately and consistently? A CNC router table is ideal for making signs and other general routing jobs. These machines can also be used for engraving so there are multiple uses. It used to be that these machines were too cost prohibitive for home use and small shops but due to an increase in interest, there are more affordable models. Here are some tips to choosing a CNC router that fits your needs and budget.

What projects are CNC routers ideal? They are for projects that would take too much time and craftsmanship to cost effectively accomplish. This includes elaborate designs and making inlays for metal. With CNC lettering, the designs will be smooth and accurate.

Software will allow you to program lettering and designs. Once you learn how to use the software these machines are easy to operate. A CNC router is perfect for details in furniture making and the results will be professional. They are also ideal for sign making so lettering is even, accurate and consistent.

Smaller machines are great for home use and run off a 120 volt standard outlet. The motors on these CNC routers are usually just 1 or 2 horsepower and are best suited for home workshops. Laser engraving review

Laser engraving uses a computer to control a laser beam which is pointed at the object to be engraved. As the laser moves it removes tiny dots of material. The image is usually built line by line, similar to the way an inkjet printer works.

Laser engraving can reproduce virtually any digital image in great detail. Many different materials can be engraved with a laser, and some machines can make color laser engravings on metal.

Laser engraving equipment has been around for a few years, but from about the year 2000, has become affordable for small sized businesses. With plenty of business owners spending money on the equipment, there has been an explosion in ideas of how to use laser engraving and it really is a fascinating field.

There are many advantages to laser engraving compared to other engraving methods:

•  Fewer consumables used and less wear and tear as no part of the machinery touches the thing being engraved

•  Highly accurate as it’s computer controlled. Laser engraving can engrave images at over 1000 dots per inch, so is highly suitable for reproducing graphics.

•  Material being engraved does not need to be held down

•  Easy to use. Some laser engraver machines are as easy to use as a normal computer printer

How to make PCB —Part 2

Last time I showed you how the Redsail min cnc router work on PCB. That is a simple video show. Then lots of friends ask me how can we make it exaclty like what you did in the video?

Actually we need 2 steps except the one with cnc rotuer

1. make your file–those drawings in software Coppercam. We use it, but if you have good kind of software. We will be gald to know it.

2. after making this file well, save it as G-code. Some friends will feel strange, cause normally after making file ready, we need to import it in artcam or type 3 or Ucancam to make toolpath. But for making PCB with Coppercam, the importing is not necessary.

Then you can import the G-code into our cnc router  RS-3636.

P.S: Redsail now make all cnc routers with USB connection. That means, we only make a toolpath in artcam or type 3 or Ucancam then import it into the USB handle controller, then we can control the router with that handle.

Its really a good choice for the people that work with coreldraw very well.

Now we had upgrated the driver for coreldraw X4. So friends who use easycut but start to use coreldraw X4, please come to Redsail for any support.

As all we know, for a cnc router, we normally have two types of controller–one is PCI card type and the other is DSP handle type.

See Redsail mini router RS-3636, we use PCI card for it for quite long time; but its quite complicated because now people prefer USB for router working now. They think its convenient. Then if we have USB, why do we need PCI?

Everything has its good and bad side. DSP handle is convenient,but USB memory has limit memory, and so does the handle. So it will be very slow if we import a large file for big cnc router design. And its easy for PCI card.

But PCI card means you also need another software to support the whole working.

So what kind of machine you want to use, depends on what kind of job you want to do.

Which one is better?

Lots of people have made extremely impressive machines with ACME screws and stepper motors. These components are perfectly suited for hobby and light industrial cnc machines, and in general offer a much better value than ballscrews for people interested in doing cutting tasks that don’t require +/-0.001″ accuracies or better.

While ballscrews are more efficient, high pitch ACME also runs smoothly and does a great job of converting rotational motion to linear travel. Furthermore, unless you get a double ball nut or a ball nut with oversized balls loaded in it for your ballscrew, as well as angular contact end bearings for them ($$$), it’s possible to get worse backlash in a ballscrew than in a low cost anti-backlash ACME setup.

As to stepper motors of cnc router, these are proven technology that are easy to setup, and can offer truly impressive performance. If one has unlimited funds, then by all means, go with servo drives and planetary gearheads, and have fun tuning PID loops. It is fun — I used to do this for high speed pick and place robots. But for a beginner or anyone on a budget, steppers can offer an excellent performance/$ ratio, especially when coupled with a high end drive like the G540, and are quite easy to set up.

But in Redsail, you can find different types, ball screws, square linear guide ways, etc. We also have servo motor for our woodworking router.

Suggestion for buying a CNC router

When deciding on purchasing a cnc router, take into account both the capacity (bit shank) and size (Horsepower) when making your decision. A router with 1 HP or less should be just fine for crafts, hobbies, models, etc. while a router with 1 3/4 HP or more and 1/2 inch bit shank capacity will be needed on professional projects involving work with hardwoods or shaping/forming pieces in a router table. The added power will allow for deeper cuts and completing cuts in 1 try. A lightweight router with plastic housing should be fine for light use but consider metal housing for more professional woodworking. Modern routers have electronic features like the electronic variable speed control which should assist you in making more precise cuts. The EVS has a “soft start” feature which users say is ideal since it speeds up the motor gradually. Many plunge routers already have this feature and more and more fixed-base routers are getting it as well. If you do inlay work or dovetails and need precision cutting depths, then make sure the model you choose comes with a fine adjustment control. A “self releasing” collet (holds the bit) should prevent stuck bits and are usually found in higher quality routers.

You can purchase many routers at Redsail and you can read customer reviews and get feedback on the advantages and disadvantages of each model. Of course going into Lowes or Home Depot to actually touch the levers and see them in action is priceless research as well.
